Using GeoTools: what is the latitude and longitude in the com.vividsolutions.jts.geom.Coordinate class?

I use com.vividsolutions.jts.geom.Coordinateas my coordinate class. But do not find any document that is the correct coordinate order. standard?

My question is: What is x? (is it latitude or longitude?) What is y? (is it latitude or longitude?)

Any guidance is appreciated.

UPDATES1 Let me add this. I am using the GeoTools Java library. The library then uses this Coordinate class. How does GeoTools handle .x and Coordinate.y coordinates?

It depends on the projection you are using. Check the definition of EPSG and list the axis order. For example, see http://spatialreference.org/ref/sr-org/6864/prettywkt/ . If you use GeoTools, you probably do not need to worry about the internal components of JTS.
