Dynamic arrays and structures in structures in python

Question

I am trying to implement these C structures in python using ctypes:

struct _rows {
    int cols_count;
    char *cols[];
}

struct _unit {
    int rows_count;
    struct _rows *rows;
}

int my_func(struct _unit *param);

The problem is that _rows.cols is an array of dynamic size char pointers, and _unit.rows is an array of dynamic sizes of _rows structure. How to implement this with ctypes in python?

I was able to define a function that will return a _rows structure with a variable number of char pointers:

        _fields_ = [("cols_count", ctypes.c_int), 
                    ("cols", ctypes.c_char_p * cols)
                   ]

I do not know what to do with nex, all this is a bit fuzzy and the ctypes documentation does not help.
