Turn on the monitor from the Google TV application

Question

Is there a way to turn the TV on or off [technically sleeping] using the Google TV Android application using the standard Android APIs?

I understand that I could hack something using IR or otherwise, but I really would like my application to perform the same function as pressing the TV Power button on my GTV remote control.
