Autorun.inf on usb can you make it run pdf?

I did some research all over the network, I think I'm just looking for conformation.

Because of how Microsoft has set security to autostart in Vista and above. Autostart from usb no longer works. Right? It looks like it will still show .exe startup options, but for some odd reason, I can't get it to run .pdf. This one suggested that I download a PDF reader and run it, and then call it to run pdf. But the general PDF reader will still have to go through the installation before launch, which I am trying to avoid.

Another idea that I came up with was the reason for this specialty that usb manufacturers stated that their usb drives could autorun files because they are configured as local drives.

So, after some experimenting and doing it, I converted my USB to local to see if this would work and pasting autorun.inf there with the correct code ...

[AutoRun]
shellexecute=mypdf.pdf
icon=mypdf.ico
label=mypdf

Unfortunately, it does not work

Also, thinking about this, creating a local disk will only work with the driver software that I downloaded to this usb ... so let's say that it is 64-bit and the client has a 32-bit version. (Correctly?)

Can someone just confirm that there is no way to authorize a PDF file from a USB drive? or even have it as an option to choose when it is connected for the first time. I can’t believe I spent the whole day trying to just make autostart work.

Thanks for taking the time to read this nub question.
