Where can I find information on WM Windows message codes?

I see here and there about users who answer a lot of noobs like me with questions with things like WM_PAINT = 0xfWhat should I look for to get a complete list of these codes? Are they all the same for all versions of windows? can they also be used for other platforms?

WM_PAINT = 0xfis a specific parameter for a particular method. these "codes" are typically required for interlop material; using unmanaged core libraries like user32 and kernel32.
