Is there a way to suppress MOTD when starting R?

R loads a long and redundant message every time it starts. Is there a way to clear this using the command in mine .rprofile?

For now, I just let it boot, then press ⌘ + L to clear it, but it would be nice to do this automatically.

What about the -quiet startup option? For me on Ubuntu:
