Scripting library for monitoring server status?

Is there a script library, preferably in Python / Perl / Ruby, that allows you to get information about the disk, boot, list of running processes, CPU usage in a standard way?

I always understand df, uptime, ps, etc. Given that they differ in the different tastes of Unix and should be done completely differently on Windows, I would have thought that someone had already done this.

(ruby) Daniel Berger supports many stones in this area. Look for sys-cpu, sys-uptime, sys-uname, sys-proctable, sys-host, sys-admin, sys-filesystem - all multi-platform AFAIKs.
