Can a 32-bit application access a database with a 64-bit sql server?

As the title says correctly, I need to know if a 32-bit application can access a database with a 64-bit sql server?

The application will not make any difference if the target database server is 32 or 64 bit, Windows / Unix, server / mainframe, local or in the cloud. All he knows is the connection string, which he sends to the driver on the local OS.
