Has anyone evaluated the impact of using AWS / Cloudfront as a CDN on response time?

Good. Here's a short link for you, just by asking S3, Cloud and my own hosting server. I get this result.

This customer is located in Malaysia.

  1. S3 East Region 810ms.
  2. CloudFront will skip CloudFront 1.61s
  3. CloudFront hit with CloudFront 83ms
  4. Own Hosting Server in Hong Kong 4.72s

You should better do the test yourself. I would recommend you use http://blitz.io/ . This gives you a complete guide in your situation.
