What is the -dpkg alternative for Mac?

I am trying to use the dpkg command, but on Mac OS X it does not work for me

dpkg -scanpackages -m . /dev/null -->Packages

-bash: dpkg: command not found
dns:Administrator$ man dpkg
No manual entry for dpkg

I wonder how can I use dpkg on Mac ??

Or homebrew http://mxcl.github.com/homebrew/ brew install dpkg

The macports version has many dependencies and takes forever.

If all you want to do is see what is in the package, then remove and unlock it.

ar -x package.deb

Then you must have the debian version, control.tar.gz and data.tar.gz in your current directory. The files that will be added to the package will be in data.tar.gz. The package description will be in a file called control inside the control.tar.gz file.

tar -tvzf data.tar.gz

I tried installing dpkg using homebrew.

Unfortunately,

dpkg -L boost

is returning

dpkg-query: error: failed to open package info file '/usr/local/var/lib
/dpkg/status' for reading: No such file or directory

Any hints how to solve this problem?
