Oracle Protocol Adapter Error

HI, I just installed Oracle 10 g Express Edition on my laptop. Platform - Windows XP SP3. Installation went fine. BUt, when I try to connect to an Oracle database through SqlPlus, I get a "TNS Protocol Adapter Error". My laptop is online. I installed the same database on Windows Server 2003 and it works fine. What is the problem?

I guess that is ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error. Oracle's documentation describes it as a common TNS error, but there are two very common reasons.

  • The Windows service for OracleXE does not start, so the database does not work.
  • Oracle SID is not installed.

, SID. :

C:> set oracle_sid=XE

( ). SQL * Plus. , , , ( , "" ).
