Difference between Ping on Windows and Ubuntu

I was messing around with a command pingon a terminal in Ubuntu, and I found something that confused me:

The terminal makes an insane amount of send / receive, but the Windows command sends only a few packets, and then shuts down. The only way to get the result is to use Ctl+Cto stop the output on the Ubuntu terminal.

What's going on here? I know that there is a big difference between the Windows command line and the terminal on Ubuntu, but I can’t understand what the difference is. Is it possible that I am not using the correct syntax? ( ping example.com)

Any ideas / help are appreciated.
