MongoDB uses too much memory

I work with MongoDB on 32-bit CentOS VPS with 1 GB of internal memory. It works fine in most cases, but from time to time it uses memory and crashes my server.

Is there a way to prevent this, for example, by restricting the memory and processor that the MongoDB daemon uses?

I was thinking of starting the Mongo daemon with ioniceand giving it a low priority, but I'm not sure if this will work.

Any help or pointers are appreciated!

I had similar problems when I used a lot of cards / abbreviations, where memory leaks and crashes often occurred. I no longer use map / reduce, and for many months there have been no memory leaks / crashes.
