Spring JdbcTemplate cannot get insert id from MySQL

Question

I am trying to insert a row into a MySQL table and get its insert identifier. I know about the MySQL function last_insert_id(), I just can't get it to work. I am currently trying to use a function annotated as a transaction and I only get 0. I am using Spring 3.1.

Use Spring's built-in support for this, not your own.
