IPhone autoresizingmasks

I had problems with designing views, so subviews behave the way I want when using autoresistor masks (for example, when changing the size of the status bar when using the phone as an access point, etc.). Is there any good documentation that I should definitely read? Apple docs don't seem to help me, at least without any major testing.
