SVN does not ignore files

I want the repository to completely ignore some specific files - the equivalent of adding these files to .gitignore on a git system. I tried:

svn propset svn:ignore *.aux" .

ignore all files .aux. However, after this and successful svn commit, svn statusit still shows:

? something.aux
! somethingelse.aux

Is there an even stronger way to tell him to ignore these files so that they do not appear in lists like this?

This is actually a general question, and I highly recommend that you consider the SVNBook chapter, “Ignoring Unversioned Items,” which covers it.

See an important excerpt from SVNBook that explains the behavior:

Subversion . Subversion, . , Subversion, , pattern-Subversion .

svn status (, '?') (, '!').

? something.aux
! somethingelse.aux

, (.. Windows, SVN) somethingelse.aux, "". something.aux .

svn propset, , , :

, svn: ignore, , , - .

svn:ignore, svn propget.
