Why do I need to specify a timestamp server when using SignTool to sign code?

Timestamp is an optional parameter, so please can someone explain the difference between a timestamped exe file and not a timestamped one? What happens if I skip this option?

If you skip the timestamp option, then when your certificate expires, exe will no longer have a valid certificate. If you use a timestamp server, exe will always have a valid certificate.
