It seems to me that I always stumble over the language used to distinguish between an AJAX request and a standard web request (which redraws the entire page using HTML returned from the server). In other words, what is the term for opposite an AJAX request?
I say "Full feedback versus asynchronous / partial postback." But I'm sure there are tons of technically wrong issues with this ...
There is no difference at the request level. All HTTP GET or POSTS. The difference is this. I could call it page loading and page refreshing.
I usually use the term “ full page refresh ”, although it can be a bit ambiguous, as you can use AJAX to load a new page and replace the current page (like mobile jQuery). However, I find this acceptable enough for normal use.
In the ASP.NET world, you can distinguish between "postback" and AJAX. Although this does not necessarily mean a full page refresh.
