Can I avoid using my own video players on mobile devices?

I am trying to play a video through webview on my Android device and iPhone. I would like the video to play, and text below it. Is it possible to play the video and not switch the device to full screen?

I am using a video tag in HTML5. My target platforms are iOS 5 and Android 2.1.

android does not support the built-in -html5-video up to version 3.1 - no chance before that. iOS 4+ supports it when you add this:
