Is it realistic for me to expect that I can use Scala for a full stack?

I'm thinking of writing a web application in Scala using Play! framework for the front end and possibly MongoDB for the backend. Is there a reason why I could not / would not want to use Scala for the entire application? In other words, are there areas where I will be forced to use ruby or php? I like the idea of having a full stack in Scala, but I really don't know if it is realistic or not.

I am very new to web development, but have experience in Java, so the play framework and Scala seem like a good choice. But I apologize if my questions do not make sense.
