String vs GString Performance

Question

Do we have hard performance data that demonstrate the advantage of single quotes over double quotes? Most people will be more comfortable with double quotes.

I know that GString can be used when we evaluate an expression and perform a lazy evaluation

The results seemed to vary greatly depending on whether you were using String or GString, what you were doing with this object, and whether you were running on the console or on Jetty.
