Why multiple instances of django application?

I have read many django articles, including the white paper. Sometimes I saw a few examples of the mention of the application, without going into details about it. This makes me think about which applications / applications have multiple instances of the application. A few examples would be appreciated.

In the URL section of the whitepaper manager, I read:

Django Admin Deploys as AdminSite Instances

Why are multiple instances needed?
