How effective is Apache Tomcat for long polling?

I went through Question a lengthy survey where, in addition to providing a solution, an interesting point was made regarding the inefficiency of Apache to handle a large number of Requests. Did I have the same concern for Apache Tomcat?

Is Apache Tomcat efficient enough to handle a long survey. I know one thing that Apache Tomcat supports a fairly large number of parallel threads, but does it scale to such a limit that we can use it for Long Polling in explaining the thread mentioned above?
