When to register in the Windows event log?

Until now, all my applications have been registered only in files. It works great for me, and I never had a problem with it.

One of my friends suggested I also use the Windows event log, but I'm not sure about that. I always had the idea that the event log is only for some very important messages, and I should not write to it if it can be avoided.

When should I / should log window events?

In my opinion, the decision about whether to register in the Windows event log depends on your application and on the people who run your software.
