What is a Zen simulator in the world?

I came across a really simple but interesting program called "robotfindskitten" and, apparently, this is a Zen simulator. Everyone who likes the program seems to throw out a term similar to some well-known jargon, but I have no idea what that means. I can, however, put forward a hypothesis from the title that this is some reflection of Zen teachings (do not aim, but do not let “this” guide you). This makes sense as you walk aimlessly, only hoping that one of the ASCII characters will be a kitten. But that still doesn't shed light on what separates the Zen simulator from, well, not the Zen simulator.

An aspiring young Robot once asked for his master. "Sensei," he asked: "What is the meaning of life?"

The Master looked directly into the eyes of the Robot, took a deep breath and said: "I am your Sensei, my young friend, but I am not a kitten. Before I can answer your question, you must find a kitten." The young robot listened to its basic words, wandered around the screen in search of a kitten. And so! - Once he found a kitten, and he felt great love and satisfaction. And yet the pressing issue still remained in his brain. The robot - no longer young - took the kitten in his arms and returned to show the owner his proud achievement and, finally, to get an answer to his question. But there was no master anywhere. He moved on, perhaps to a console screen several miles away, or maybe to a Big Console screen in the sky.

Desperate, the Robot cried out: "Without my master, how can I understand the meaning of life?"

The kitten blinked.

The robot was enlightened.
