How to prepare Django for a possible slashdotting?

I would like to prepare my site for a possible influx of traffic. This is my first experience using Django as a framework, so I'm not sure what modifications should be made to ensure that I am ready and will not give up. What are some common things you can do to prepare a Django site for production-level traffic?

I also wonder what to expect in terms of traffic. I am currently hosted in Webfaction with 600 GB / month of traffic. Will it end quickly? Are there statistics on how big events are with slashdotted?

Anything other than this - read what others are using:

Since you are in Webfaction, you have a simple answer for processing your statistics:

  • Create a static application. (Not a static CGI / PHP application)
  • Add it under your current site.
  • Put all your statics under it (or symbolically bind to them, which I do).

nginx - .
