Why does the Android emulator browser just go to the main screen when I enter the URL and press the enter key?

A few days ago, I installed the Android SDK on my work laptop. I created AVD for 4.0.3. I ran it using proxy information on the command line. When it started, I launched the browser application and successfully displayed the Google homepage. Then I clicked in the URL field of the browser application and entered the name of the public host associated with the website and hit Enter on the computer keyboard. As a result, the browser application simply went back to the main screen. I tried several different host names (one of them was www.cnn.com), with the same result.

What am I missing?
