Now that synchronization services are becoming obsolete, what a reliable alternative to synchronizing contacts in OSX?

Sync services are no longer updated with OSX Lion. Maybe soon there will be no more. What are the alternatives that will be used now to sync contacts?

edit - more explanation. The context I'm asking about is creating a synchronization application that can connect to a synchronization server (using SyncML). This synchronization application (client) will be installed on the OSX system and will monitor which contacts have been changed on the client (and thus inform the server), as well as apply changes from the server to the client side.

Until now, we used Sync Services to track changes and synchronize contacts from a central location, but since SS is out of date, we are looking for alternatives. Hope the addition helps.

I'm not quite sure that you are here. Do you want to, say, edit contacts in a system-wide address book and distribute these changes to other devices? If so, use the address book structure and leave distribution until iCloud address book support.
