Microsoft SQL Server 2012 no database engine

I just installed MS SQL Server 2012 (Express). I went through the entire installation process from SQLManagementStudio_x64_ENU.exe (other things were already installed) with checking all the checkboxes, so I thought that I had everything I needed.

When I try to connect to. \ Sqlexpress, I get the message "Cannot connect to. \ Sqlexpress". See below for a detailed description of the message, I copied it from another question, because mine is in Dutch :-) Unable to connect. \ sqlexpress

I did some research through my friends Google and Stackoverflow, but none of the solutions work. 1. There is nothing in the Database Engine β†’ Local server groups β†’ Register local servers (it says: β€œThere are no local servers of typeβ€œ Database Engine ”2. I cannot restart the services because I only have one service related to SQL ( SQL Server VSS Writer) 3. There are no services listed in Sql Server Configuration Manager -> SQL Server Services

Does anyone know what happened? Please let me know if you need more information. Thanks, new to SQL Server

SQLManagementStudio_x64_ENU.exe, because the name only indicates SQL Server Management Studio , which is the graphical interface used to manage the servers. It does NOT include any database engine or anything other than a client tool, so it’s normal that you do not have an installed service.

See downloads on the official download site. A file called SQLEXPRADV_x64_ENU.exe or SQLEXPRADV_x86_ENU.exe is a complete installation that includes both client tools and the database engine. This is usually the best download I can think of of all the options.

If I believe that the SQLManagementStudio_x64_ENU.exe file contains only management tools and not server software. You need to download another file ( SQLEXPRADV_x64_ENU.exe , if you want to get the full package with the server and reporting services, etc.).

See this page for more details.

I assumed that you completed the entire installation process without any errors.

You might have installed it with a different instance name, and perhaps because of this you get this message.

The next thing you should check.

  • Try accessing the same computer where you installed SQL Server using the management studio.

  • Start menu or Search SQL Server Configuration Tool. You will find an instance of SQL Server on this tool. name.

  • Make sure your instance is running.

  • What authentication mode did you choose during installation and take the right step when creating a connection?

If the above step does not work, please provide more details.

You need to download SQL Server Express Edition with the Additional Services option.

ADV - with advanced services (reporting services)
