Google Docs / Spreadsheets API Current Error - Inflow of 500 errors

Question

We have seen hundreds of thousands of 500 status code responses over the last couple of days:

We're sorry, a server error occurred. Please wait a bit and try reloading your spreadsheet.

• They are almost entirely on GET https://spreadsheets.google.com/feeds/spreadsheets/private/full
• This started to happen in the last 5-7 days.
• This happens in many user accounts - it is not tied to a specific user
• Approximately ~ 8% for these API calls is 5xx, the rest is 200/304 / etc. as was expected
