Unable to install bcrypt from npm on EC2

Question

On Ubuntu 14.04 server on an Amazon EC2 instance, I had an error while running npm install . He was unable to install bcrypt ( "bcrypt": "^0.8.1" in my package.json ).

There was an error here:

I just needed to install build tools sudo apt-get install build-essential g++

Note that you need apt-get update to avoid any problems with apt-get on EC2 (otherwise you could get E: Failed to fetch…

Then npm install again, and you will be fine!

Fixed installation and compilation with gcc 4.4 as follows:

 yum install gcc44 gcc44-c++ export CC="gcc44" export CXX="g++44" npm install -g level

In the end, I created the 00npm.config file in the .ebextensions folder. This clears the folder, sets the environment variables and tries to create again.
