Migrating from Subversion to TFS 2013

Can anyone suggest a way to migrate from Subversion to TFS 2013? Do I need to use paid software tools for this?

I tried the following, as I am accessing the svn file (file: // ABCServer / SVN_Source), which it does not support.

Tip migration (i.e. history) is the easiest, but I will answer based on my wishes to keep the story.

You have 2 options, you can go to the git repository or go to the TFVC repository.

Porting to git hosted in TFS may be the easiest option. There are many free tools like the git-svn tool and subgit to help migrate Subversion to the git repository. Having created the git repository locally, you can push it to the server and complete the “task”.

If you want to transfer the repository to TFVC, you probably look at a commercial tool if you want to do it in one step. A simpler option would be to first port svn to git and switch from git to TFVC using either git-tfs or git-tf.

You can do the following:

  • Delete the .svn folder in the root directory
  • Connecting to a TFS server in visual studio
  • Right-click solution in visual studio and click on “add source control solution”
  • Complete the step and check the code.
