Exception when starting spring web mvc application

Question

My spring project works fine when I use spring 3.2.9, but if I change it to 4.1.4, I get the following exception when I run the application.

This answer also applies to your description of the problem / exception: you have a conflicting version of javax.validation !

Hint: I prefer viewing the Netbeans diagram (pom editor) to identify and resolve dependency conflicts (especially after some version upgrade). "Pure-maven-way" will be:

 mvn dependency:tree -Dverbose -Dincludes=javax.validation

for my case, this was due to the spring mvc version from spring boot starter not compatible with spring data. and the exception can be very difficult if AbstractMethodError has two constructors and the first is the default without any parameters. So, depending on the implementation, if they throw an exception using the first constructor, it will take a lot of hard work to debug.
