Is WSO2 DAS a new name or product successor for WSO2 BAM?

We are evaluating WSO2 API Manager 1.8.0 (WSO2 AM) along with WSO2 Business Activity Monitor 2.5.0 (WSO2 BAM). From our support partner Yenlo, we received a WSO2 recommendation to use WSO2 BAM 3.0 for a new installation, since the changes from BAM 2.5.0 to BAM 3.0.0 are massive.

BAM 3.0 has not yet been released (see release plan for JIRA ). But milestone 4 must be available.

But the only thing I can find is milestone 3 BAM and milestone 4 DAS (Data Analytics Server) announced in this email . The DAS change log also indicates JIRA problems from the BAM.

Is DAS a new name for BAM?

Is DAS a new name for BAM?

Yes, with existing BAM + features, all WSO2 CEP features are also included in the WSO2 DAS.

Some content of the current BAM is also applicable to DAS, for example, for collecting and storing any types of business events, a high-performance data collection platform, ready-made data agents for all WSO2 products, etc. But since DAS is a full version of the old BAM, there are major changes, such as the analytics engine, now based on the spark and built-in storage architecture, and not on cassandra centric (DAS 3.0 will have RDBMS and hbase connectors).

DAS also includes all WSO2 CEP functions, so users can perform both real-time analysis and batch analysis. Basically, this is a kind of analytics platform.

The old BAM is mainly focused on batch analysis.

More information can be found in the WSO2 DAS Documentation . DAS will also include machine learning features in the future, which is another name for the entire analytics platform.

Keep in mind as far as I know that DAS is not fully backward compatible with BAM. Therefore, if you are starting a new one with WSO2 AM 1.10.0, the best way is to use DAS version 3 rather than BAM.
