SSH - connection reset by peer - Linux Host

I have a hosting account with a Linux hosting account with GoDaddy, recently my ssh access has stopped, this is an error:

Toms-MacBook-Pro: production volume $ ssh tomheather50@192.186.452.73 ssh_exchange_identification: read: Connection reset by peer

This happens on my Wi-Fi connection, however, if I create a mobile phone access point and connect through my 3g telephone network, I can successfully connect without errors ....

Over the past two days, I supported GoDaddy support, and they didn’t help much, they just said that I just need to connect via the mobile network!

After sending traceroute to them, I received this response.

We track connections dropped and intermittent through layer 3 and their IP 4.34.191.254. I noticed that your connection, which is having difficulty, is routed through this path until the connection that really worked is routed. We turn to Level 3 Communications to find out if they can identify and correct this situation. We see more cases like yours appear from both Europe and the USA. In the meantime, I would recommend using a connection that does not track level 3, if at all possible.

I'm not sure what it means, and it amazes me that GoDaddy cannot guarantee that I can connect through my Wi-Fi connection!

Any advice, explanations and of course help would be great guys.

The message indicates a problem connecting to the Internet on a level 3 network (i.e. somewhere between your Wi-Fi network / Internet provider and the godaddy website). Nothing you or godaddy can do to fix this, only Level3 can.

It is supposed to use an alternative path that occurs when you use a 3G service provider (instead of your Internet service provider). By chance, I could add - the path between some 3G providers and Godadday can still go through the network affected by level 3.

Eventually, Level3 will fix the problem (large vendors usually do this quite quickly) and everything will return to normal.

It is always useful to have an alternative provider, your 3G helped.

BTW: traceroute is a tool to check which route packets pass between your machine and the server you want to reach: https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/documentation/Darwin/Reference/ManPages/man8/traceroute .8.html
