GitHub Markdown - add the name of the current branch

Just a short question:

Is it possible to show the current branch name, for example. Is README.md automatically using a placeholder or something similar using GitHub Flavored Markdown?

No, I don’t know anything like this in README or any other markdown documents when viewing the source of your project. And nothing appears when searching for a man page .

However, GitHub Pages offers all kinds of information about the repo the document is associated with. Of course, GitHub Pages is a completely different matter than a README file, so this may or may not be useful to you.
