Cannot install LocalDB on Windows 8.1

Question

I developed an application that uses SQL Server (specifically LocalDB), and I just pushed it to the client.

The client starts Windows 8.1 x64, but when I try to install the SQL LocalDB version from x86 or x64 directly from Microsoft, I keep getting this error:

Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Express LocalDB

The installation of this product failed because it is not supported on this operating system. For supported configurations, see the product documentation.

I am a little stuck here and quite confused since I use LocalDB on my Windows 8.1 machine.

How can i solve this?

Right-click the LocalDB configuration file and verify that it is configured in a different compatibility mode. And make sure you select “Run as administrator” to start the installation. There is also a similar thread for reference, which may require reinstalling Windows to fix the OS error.
