Why did Microsoft Edge (formerly Project Spartan) offer to open this website in Internet Explorer?

Does anyone know which MS Edge triggers do not open a specific web page / site, but instead invite the user to open the site in Internet Explorer?

The message says:

This website needs Internet Explorer

This website uses the technologies that will work best in Internet Explorer.

Unable to continue using Project Spartan.

This is because the website uses some inherited technology. Microsoft Edge will automatically detect this and prompt the user. You will need to determine what obsolescence components exist in Internet Explorer and convert these parts to modern web standards.

There is no rule based on page content to invoke this prompt.

The request is managed using the "Compatibility List", which is a cloud-based list that is periodically downloaded by the MS Edge browser. It is very similar to the CV list in IE .

In most cases, we work with sites on this list to upgrade to newer technologies, after which they will be removed from the list.

You can make sites at http://dev.modern.ie/tools/staticscan/ to get some tips on why the site might not display properly in MS Edge. As Charles said, behavioral control itself is controlled by a compatibility list. Check out this blog post for a list of older technologies that are not supported by MS Edge: http://blogs.windows.com/msedgedev/2015/05/06/a-break-from-the-past-part-2- saying-goodbye-to-activex-vbscript-attachevent /

You must send an email to Microsoft ( iepo@microsoft.com ) and ask Microsoft to remove the domain of your site from the compatibility list.

https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd567845(v=vs.85).aspx#removal

To remove your site from the compatibility list (or dispute the removal of your site from the list), ask the owner of the entire site to verify that the domain site appears in the compatibility list. If so, send an email to iepo@microsoft.com , which contains the following information:

  • Owner's name
  • Name of the organization
  • Company name
  • Street address
  • E-mail address
  • Phone number
  • Website address

Microsoft will review the information provided and remove your site from the compatibility list at the next scheduled update.
