Why the activator team is so slow

This is the first time I install an activator and start playing with Play 2.

After loading the activator from https://downloads.typesafe.com/typesafe-activator/1.3.5/typesafe-activator-1.3.5-minimal.zip, I followed the tutorial to set up my first application to play.

However, everything that I run as an activator, for example, a ui activator, a new activator or an activator, runs inside the application directory, the command gets stuck there for 5-10 minutes, and sometimes longer, before it starts loading dependencies.

$ activator run Getting org.scala-sbt sbt 0.13.8 ... downloading https://repo.typesafe.com/typesafe/ivy-releases/org.scala-sbt/sbt/0.13.8/jars/sbt.jar ...

At first I thought it was because of my network (I am in China). So I logged in to the server on AWS, and this is the same result.

Is there something that I forgot to install, or is that what is with the activator team?

I am running Scala 2.11.7 with Java 1.8.0_51-b16 on Mac OS Yosemite 10.10.4.

add offline: = true in build.sbt, this may help

or some time, if there is any wrong configuration in application.conf, it may take a long time trying to figure this out, so your startup will be very slow.

Well, depending on your connection, this may take some time - keep in mind that the current version of Activafe Activator is around 650 MB. Although 10 minutes are really not normal.

Keep in mind that you can also download the standalone version, including all the dependencies, ready to go: https://downloads.typesafe.com/typesafe-activator/1.3.9/typesafe-activator-1.3.9.zip
