Empty space when opening a soft keyboard in Android

Question

I need to use

windowSoftInputMode="adjustReszize" 

to detect changes to the Soft Keyboard, and when it opens / closes.

My problem is that when I do this, I see an empty spot for a second of a second, when the view is first resized, and then the keyboard opens.

Is there a way to avoid this and then add a background image to the window?
