Giving access to Instagram public_content database

My application worked for a year, and then the instagram API calls stopped returning any data.

I use the following instagram endpoint:

https://api.instagram.com/v1/media/search?lat=48.858844&lng=2.294351&access_token=MY_TOKEN

I noticed that I need public_content permission, but .. what does Instagram require to give me that permission? I could not understand anything from the documentation, and they rejected my request for this permission.

Instagram platform API platform can be used to create automated, authentic high-quality applications and services that:

  • Help people share their content with third-party apps.
  • Help brands and advertisers understand, manage their audience and media rights.
  • Help broadcasters and publishers find content, get digital media rights, and share media with proper attribution.

The best way to get permission for public content is to register the client application in one of these tree categories above, carefully fill in the use case using the screencast of your application and cross your fingers;).

Leonel's answer is incorrect. You get the public_content for your application by re-requesting an authentication token with this additional permission. This has nothing to do with Sandbox or Live mode. This can be done for Live and Sandbox applications, but it all depends on what mode you are in. Even if you have a public_content area for the Sandbox Mode application, you can only see publicly accessible content from sandbox users we invite to your client.

Therefore, Leonel is partially correct in the sense that a permission issue may not be important to you if you cannot get your client’s approval.

Read this brief description of Instagram areas and modes .
