How to link to manual pages in CS documents?

I am busy writing my dissertation (so, I think, this may be considered a matter of homework). Now, one of the things that arose is the Unix select system call. Of course, the Linux guys all have man pages, but they have real geeky urls that don't look like they will stay forever. What to do? So far, I mean the link to the SELECT (2) UNIX page ...

You should ask your college about higher education how you should refer to it in your dissertation. They will have strict rules on how to do this. If that makes it easier, see if your library has an instance of the Linux Programmer reference — provided it describes the select (2) call — and refers to it as a book

The way to it: open the Wikipedia article “Unified UNIX Specification”, follow the external link below “Unified UNIX Specification, version 3”, and now you are reading the full text of the specification. From there, "System Interfaces" and select the one you want. This is also a very useful programming reference.

Try searching the googling man <command> . I find them often available here: http://linux.die.net/man/2/select .
