Standard Web Services v Secure Web Services

I ask this question on hold as part of the project. I have experience in the development and use of web services in the past, and I am sure of that. However, they told me that as part of this next project, I would need to use “secure” web services. Can you give some idea of ​​what additional development tasks will be implemented, and not the standard one, dare I say that these are unsafe web services?

If you do not have a complex multi-period scenario, then SSL is much more practical and compatible with anything based on WS-Security or related specification.
