How to create a main / detail form in Axapta / Dynamics Ax with a main grid and a part grid, where selecting a record in the main grid changes the contents of the part grid accordingly?

To add James's answer a bit, you can often find an example of what you are trying to do by simply looking at an existing form. You did not indicate whether you worked in Dynamics AX 2012 or earlier, but you probably want to create a ListPage and Detail form if it is 2012. For example, take a look at the EcoResProductListPage and EcoResProductDetails forms and see how they connect.
