This is an exact duplicate: Problems with IE6 with transparent PNG

Firefox: alt text

IE 6: alt text The background for the image is transparent. And yet IE seems to mess it up. Any ideas?

IE6 does not display transparent PNG correctly. There is a javascript fix, or several of them , but it is easier if you just do not use PNG.

Sure, PNG. IE6 does not handle PNG alpha transparency natively, although there are some hacks that work. Here is one . Here yet .

I do not think that IE fully committed PNG to IE8.

IE6 had transparency issues

IE7 had problems with the color palette

If you need a transparent image, and you need it to work with IE6, use GIF. They are displayed correctly in all browsers.

Well, you can use PNG in IE6 rather than 24-bit PNG, because alpha channels turn into gray blocks. You can use Javascript to solve this problem, but it does not work in all cases (for example, a repeating background). Check out this link: http://www.twinhelix.com/css/iepngfix/
