Memcached and speed

I study using Memcached or Velocity for distributed caching across a server cluster after reading Scott Hanselman's question . Does anyone know a Microsoft website that uses Velocity to cache it? If Microsoft does not use it, does anyone know of any relatively popular website that uses it?

It would be rather stupid if any significant site went live (during production) on the CTP of the product ( edit - ) in the comments - this is not difficult. there are exceptions like stackoverflow). Velocity is currently in CTP2, which is good for developing proof of concept and product planning, but that’s all. Once it is supported, I am sure we will see a lot of use. Follow the Velocity product group block ( http://blogs.msdn.com/velocity/ ) for details.

As for memcached vs Velocity, they have somewhat overlapping, but ultimately different goals. Memcached is not reliable. This is clearly stated in the documentation and the authors. It should be incredibly fast, cheap and easy to manage. Velocity, on the other hand, is much more familiar with the formal corporate platform. It is complex, with a robust API, and is better suited for a more formal data environment.

memcached is not supported on Win32. There is a project whose purpose is to port memcached to Win32

http://jehiah.cz/projects/memcached-win32/

And while they were successful, they lag behind several versions (dot versions at the moment) behind the main release line. So if you are on Win32, I think Velocity is your best bet.

So, while I have no answer to your question (which sites use speed), I think you better go with Velocity over memcached.
