Windows cygwin equivalent Mac OS X open command

I understand that this is almost identical to the Windows equivalent for Mac OS X "open" command and the equivalent of Linux Mac OS X "open" command , but I specifically ask about the command that I can run in the Cygwin shell to use the current UI application for Windows associated with the argument extension, which, as in OS X, opens this application, if necessary, and opens the specified file in this application.

The cmd.exe start command is not an option in the Cygwin shell, nor is xdg-open or gnome-open available through Cygwin.

Is there an equivalent?
