Geographic location uri

I would like to use a URI scheme so that users of one of my applications can share geographic locations.

I don’t want to come up with my own URI scheme, and “geo” seems the most suitable, but there are only two Internet projects on this subject ( draft-mayrhofer-geo-uri-01 , draft-mayrhofer-geo-uri-02 ), both have expired and are very different in how they approach the standard.

Is there a URI that is suitable for coding latitude and longitude, and made it like an RFC? Should I use a common URI, like a tag URI scheme ?

the last project - from February 12, 2009. looks like a way.

final note: the project is now in the queue of RFC editors at the IETF, so it should become an RFC within the next 3 to 5 months.

The definition of the geo-URI scheme is now RFC 5870 (since June 2010):
