Best version control system for IIS?

I am looking for a good VCS (version control system such as CVS) that runs on Windows or IIS5 (I have a web server and see no reason to install Apache). Preferably something with the integrated Visual Studio client and, preferably, for free. Is there such a beast or will I have to buy sourcesafe?

I would rather spend a couple of grands and run TFS and then use a free copy of a safe source. Of course, there are many other cheaper alternatives (Subversion, for example)

If you have Team Edition Visual Studio, you get a free version of TFS that will work for five users. Just a thought if there is an MSDN already.

I would recommend Subversion , which is free and does not require IIS or Apache. Spent years at Sourcesafe, but had nothing but trouble.

You can use the free TortoiseSVN client.

For visual studio, I use VisualSvn , which provide an integrated plugin, but it's not free - only $ 50.

AnkhSvn do provide a free plugin, though I reckon.

Subversion is pretty good, although I am also a fan of DVCS systems (mercurial and GIT). The great advantage of SVN is that its GUI tools are quite mature.
