SQL Server time output during index reorganization and update statistics

When the Reorganize Index and Update Statistics are launched in terms of servicing MS SQL Server 2005, our production web server shuts down. I know that the Reorganize Index is an online operation, and that is why we chose it according to the rebuild index so that we are at a loss. It starts after backing up the database in the same maintenance plan, but I read that it should not have a significant impact. Any suggestions?

Do you have a corporate version? Online operation is available only in the corporate version.

When the web server shuts down, it's just too much workload for how many features do you have? What does perfmon show for avg seconds read / write for a physical disk? It can be as simple as throwing money at your disk subsystem.

You might want to try this instead of reorg:

  • create a new index with a different name identical to the existing index
  • delete an existing index after creating a new index
  • If you use query hints that specify the index name, you will need to rename the new index according to the old index name

If you use the corporate edition, you can also rebuild indexes online with the prompt ONLINE = ON:

ALTER INDEX ALL ON table REBUILD WITH(ONLINE = ON)
